I first heard about dimdim back in December 2008, back then I never put too much thought on this product mainly because I didn’t have a need, but things have changed. dimdim just turned 5.0 and with this new version, dimdim is now better than ever. With dimdim you can host a videoconference on the web, you can share your screen with others, share documents like PowerPoint presentations, etc.
You may be asking yourself what is so special about this software? Well, to start this is not a software based service, you don’t install anything on your computer, everything happens on the web. You just have to set up the conference on your end, using a web tool, and send the invitation, that’s it. You don’t have to install anything on your computer, neither has your invitees, everyone connect using a web portal that it actually works, and if you still have questions you here is a link to a video explaining how to use the service.
With dimdim you don’t have to be an expert to create a good impression on your co-workers or friends, or investors and as if this wasn’t enough you get to host conferences with up to 20 people for free, that’s right, nada, zero, no cost at all. Just follow this link and sign up for your own free dimdim account and you are good to go. The have several levels of service starting from free to $228 a year or $19 a month.
What makes dimdim the best presentation tool, other than being free, is that you have several ways to deliver the idea to your attendees. You can chat with your attendees publicly or privately, it works almost real time video or written. When you add a presentation to the service you have control of the presentation farther than what other services allows you. You can add annotations, signs, arrows, or any type of marks to your presentation to help it stand out.
You may be asking yourself if dimdim is the right tool for you, if you have to work in a collaboration environment, show presentations to an online group, or simply show people what your next big idea is, then yes this is the right tool for you. You have nothing to lose, click on this link to sign up and start enjoying the benefits of a great, secure website that allows you to communicate with others anytime.
If you have had any experience with dimdim or would like to recommend a different alternative, leave a comment on this post. If you have questions, you can email me using my contact form on my About Me page or simply leave your question as a comment on this post, I will try to help as much as I can to help you take advantage of this service. Hi,
Have you ever heard of TeamViewer at http://www.teamviewer.com
TeamViewer is a solution for easy and friendly desktop sharing. You can remote control a partners desktop to give online assistance, or you can show your screen to a customer – all without worrying about firewalls, IP addresses and NAT.
TeamViewer can also be used to control unattended computers and servers. Installation as a system service even allows remote reboot and reconnect.
Are you working in a team with members in many different locations? Would you like to present your desktop or collaborate in a document? In the TeamViewer partner list you see at any time who of your partners is available – it just takes one mouse and you are connected.
It is also a very secure solution. All versions feature completely secure data channels with key exchange and AES (256 Bit) session encoding, the same security standard used by https/SSL.
And all this is free for non- commercial use.
Find out why more than 15 million users trust TeamViewer.
All the best,
Jasmin
TeamViewer GmbH Germany
I downloaded teamviewer, I will be testing it and comparing it to dimdim soon, thanks Jasmin for pointing out this software to the community.

We thought Dimdim was a reasonable low-budget option for webinars too until we discovered the major weakness in their product. Apart from the fact that our ppt slides didn’t render properly, audio quality was often poor and presenters have to upload their slides while the audience is already in attendance, the major problem is that the VOIP and telephone audio can’t be bridged. That means that when a presenter wants to call in to a conference/webinar, the whole audience has to do so too. What a joke.
Unfortunately this flaw did not become clear to us until we had already signed up for a year’s contract (it was certainly not made clear on Dimdim’s website that VOIP/telephone could not be bridged). We could live with the sometimes poor audio and the dodgy ppt rendering, and the sketchy setup perhaps, but the lack of VOIP/telephone bridging makes dimdim completely unusable for us and probably everyone else who wants to hold public webinars.
Never mind, Sunil and the sales team at Dimdim were so nice and attentive in their persistent phone calls to upsell us the yearly package, they’d surely do the right thing and refund the unused portion of our subscription fee when we told them the product was unfit for purpose.
Well no. Unfortunately, its all gone suddenly quiet. What a surprise.
If you are serious about making webinars my advice would be to stay away from DimDim.
Hey Nick, sorry to hear that DimDim did not do it for you, the telephone aspect of the service is certainly a let down. Not sure what to think about the quality since I haven’t had any problem in that regards. Thanks for sharing your experience and let us know of any other service you recommend. Thanks, Luis.
wow, what a nice post,There are plenty of companies that offer online video chat sessions. Dimdim is my favorite. keep posting.
