I returned my iPod touch

September 20, 2007 in Technology by LwEEs

I gave up, there were too many missing features, and while I was happy with the device itself, I felt that I was missing a lot. Today I went to my Apple store where the employee that helped me was extremely courteous, she took back my iPod touch asked me if everything was ok with the unit, which it was, and sold me an iPhone.ipodtouch.jpg

What made me decide was a recent visit to a friend of mine, he is not technology savvy so the iPod touch was the best thing he has ever seen. As I started giving a demo, I felt like I was letting his expectations down but in reality it was me the one not happy with it. I try to show him a video, rapidly noticing that the full experience needed audio. I was not letting him use my earbuds, either there is no speaker on the iPod touch.

I have him in my contacts, when he saw his picture he didn’t like it. Of course I was missing a camera to fix hit contact photo on the spot. I show them pictures and while the slide show was running there was no music on it. As a Mac geek that I an, I felt that I was not really enjoying what the iPod the way I could enjoy an iPhone.

iPod touch wish list

September 6, 2007 in Technology by LwEEs

You’ve seen it by now, the press is talking about it, Apple has release a new and refreshed line of products today. The new line up is as follows, iPod shuffle with different colors, same memory size and same prize. iPod nano has a new form factor, comes in 4 or 8 gigabytes at $149 and $199 with the same new07ipod_fam.JPG colors that the Shuffle has. The 5th Gen iPod is now the iPod classic, comes in 80 and 160 gigabytes at $249 and $349. Both iPod classic and iPod shuffle have an improved UI (User Interface). Battery life improved along the line and casing is now all aluminum.

There is a new addition to the iPod line, the iPod touch. It comes in 8 and 16 gigabytes, touch screen functionality like the iPhone. Price starts at $299 and $399 for the 16 gigs, is just like the iPhone except that it doesn’t do any phone calls nor has a camera. Visit the Apple store for more details, what I really want to talk about is my wish list. Don’t get me wrong, I love this new iPod and I’m getting one as soon as they become available. Here is what I think is missing;

iPhone Cases

August 22, 2007 in Reviews by LwEEs

The iPhone has been out for almost two months and the excitement still takes over the blogosphere. I spent half hour playing with one at my closest Apple store, I love it, and I really wish I had to money to get one right now. While listening to the Typical Mac User podcast last weekend I came to realize that if I had an iPhone today choosing the right case or cover would be a dilemma for me. I started looking at the cases and/or covers available in the market and here are my findings.

The first iPhone cover that came to my attention was the Marware C.E.O. Sleeve for iPhone; I live the style of this sleeve leather case. The discussion in the Typical Mac User mention the point that permanent cover may overheat your battery during charging, decreasing the life span of it. With this in mind this cover makes perfect sense since you would have to take it out of the cover to use it or charging it. At $24.95 this cover rocks even in the price, but there are other options.

Apple Keyboard: Live Review

August 18, 2007 in Reviews by LwEEs

I’m at the Apple store in Florida Mall in Orlando, FL writing to test the new Apple Keyboard, as I’m writing I notice that it takes some getting use to since the keys feel weird to the touch. I like the way it looks, but I can see where it could be an issue for some because of the ergonomics. As I’m writing I find myself making lots of mistakes, but the keys are not as far apart as they look.

The aluminum finish looks great and the white keys gives it a fancy look, normal in all Apple products. The downside for those that buy the iMac is the Mighty Mouse, is still the old white Mighty Mouse that don’t match quite the design of the iMac itself or the keyboard. The iMac, well I’m in love with it, I would like to buy one right now, but I’m thinking I’ll wait for Leopard.

As I continue writing I notice that I’m getting slightly better at the keyboard, since I have good typing skills I think that is not as bad as some may think. I encourage you to do this very same thing, go to your nearest Apple Store and test it out. Write some words and test it for yourself, I think I’ll be using mine when I finally get my iMac.
