Welcome to 2009!

January 2, 2009 in In My Head by LwEEs

Happy New Year to everyone, a lot of good things happen in 2008 and a couple bad made our life a bit sour. I’m happy for all the cool technology related advancements we had this year and for all the new things I learned along the way. After having the best of my years with my family and a stumbling economy, I have come learn how to better prioritize my personal life.

Happy New Year.

Happy New Year.

While on the subject, how many of you have made your new year’s resolutions? This is the best time of the year to plan ahead on a short term what do you want to accomplish in 2009. I have managed to create a short but doable list of items that I don’t want to miss doing this year:

Reading Blogs About SEO for Bloggers

May 23, 2008 in In My Head by LwEEs

[amazonify]0470246677[/amazonify]I’ve notice that most of the bloggers that talk about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) are getting too busy promoting their books, blogs, and point of views, that they are forgetting something, “Us”. Most bloggers don’t understand anything about SEO, we need to read about it and understand it one piece at a time.

I totally understand that SEO bloggers need communicate the reality of how page rank, bounce rate, and advertising works, but without asking anyone to give out what they sell, please help us a little better why all of these subjects are important and we may buy from you. Very few SEO experts actually talk about tips and tricks about SEO at a low level, some bloggers are not that savvy, including myself, and this is causing a big deal of confusion in me.

I read blogs about SEO topic day and night, the reason I read this blogs is because I don’t fully understand how to implement SEO on my website. Maybe the tools I’m using are not the correct ones, and the ideas behind my strategy are not correct.

Problems With My iPod Touch

September 16, 2007 in Technology by LwEEs

Don’t get intimidated by my post title, there are just a few bugs that I have found so far and some annoyances. None of them are going to make walk away from my iPod touch, I absolutely love my little device and I want Apple to fix these bugs as fast as they can. I got my iPod touch last Thursday and since then I haven’t stop using it, the best way to review a product is to explore every single one of its features, so here we go.

Negative pixels, that was what I read on some other blog, and is in fact what happened to me the second time I try to watch a video on my iPod. I remember playing video with no problems when suddenly every movie or video podcast will have this annoying bright pixels where I’m sure they meant to be black. I fix this by manually turning off my iPod by holding the sleep/wake button on top of the iPod and then turning it back on. Since I did this I haven’t had this issue again, but wanted to mention it so that you know what to do if this happens to you.

ICE, Do you know what this is?

September 11, 2007 in News by LwEEs

In case of emergency (ICE) is a program that was created in the year 2005 by paramedic Bob Brotchie (source: Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_case_of_emergency). The main idea is to set special contacts in your mobile device with the initials ICE, with the intention of letting people know whom to contact in the event that you suffer an accident. The idea came back to my mind because of the recent loss of Adam Finley, a blogger that was exercising in the morning, had an accident and the police couldn’t alert his family right away because he had no ID on him.

While I never met or read Adam’s work, I hope his family is doing well in this time of pain and suffering due to this terrible loss. I am married and have kids, and I walk in the afternoons most of the time without my wallet. I think that we should all have an identification with us at all times, the following is a list of suggestions to keep yourself identified at all times:

Blog Challenge by Lorelle on Wordpress

September 7, 2007 in Technology by LwEEs

Lorelle is a respectable blogger-ette that I’ve followed for some time now, I love her passion for blogging because more than often I learn something new from her. She just posted an article challenging blogger to share their favorite one tip that was very useful back when you started blogging, since I’m up for the challenge, here is my tip hopefully you’ll like it.

I remember that back when I started blogging I use to feel lost at times, with nothing on my mind to blog about. I had my passion defined but my skills to start an article were bad, I feel that I have improved a lot and its all thanks to sites like lorelle.wordpress.com and problogger.com. There are other sites that bring so much knowledge to me, but these two are the best. That’s exactly my tip, find people that inspire you, that when you read what they have to say it empowers you and make you feel confident about what you are doing.

Are Bloggers and Podcasters Selling Themselves Short?

September 4, 2007 in Business by LwEEs

How to know the right price? There is no guide for bloggers and/or podcasters to follow as the industry we are in is so new. A month ego a blogger/podcaster exchange a day of advertising to any company that send him an iPhone, and he certainly got not only one but more than one. We are not going to discuss whether this approach is good or bad, but the implication of selling time and space for advertising on your blog. Immediately some other bloggers/podcasters criticized him for taking this position stating that he was selling himself short.

I’m not going into names because the main point that I want to bring is to how you value your time, effort, blog, etc. Let’s say that you are selling your business and let’s imagine that you are a business owner that for health reasons you have to sell your business. It is you and only you the one that can determine the value of your business and this is a very important part of business decision.

My Social Networking Explanation

August 29, 2007 in In My Head by LwEEs

On a recent episode of Mac Roundtable and Victor’s Typical Mac User podcast, they started talking about social networking sites, again. They raised their voice explaining how social networking sites are a waste of time, and some are calling it “bacon” to the fact that you are spammed by your own friends with request to join new social network ideas that pops up almost on a weekly basis. I hate to do this, I’m 30 years old, and I know what is worth waste my time on and what not.

During the whole conversation, I felt like I should have been there to explain why social networking sites are not for everybody but at the same time is something that everybody should be aware. A podcaster that gets this the way I do is Mitch Joel from Six Pixels of Separation take your time to listen to him to understand what is going on with social networking sites. Social networking sites are a great tool to advertise who you are and what you do, there are so many of them that if you where to join and update them all on a daily basis you will go crazy.

That Junk Email Going Around The Office

August 20, 2007 in In My Head by LwEEs

Have you ever find yourself passing over an email with some exciting news that turns out to be false? That very same thing happened to me last week when a co-worker forwards me an email with news about changes in the state’s traffic law. I asked her who the sender was; she told me that her aunt did. I gave it credibility and immediately created a post with the news item.

My mistake, I’m not blaming my co-worker for giving me false information; I blame myself for falling into this old trick. Immediately I saw a jump in my website traffic stats, a big one I must add. One of my readers advised me of the fake news items; actually this type of email has been around with different states on it. I immediately advise everyone of the false news article and hopefully no one else will be fooled.

Answering Comments With Your Blog

August 15, 2007 in In My Head, Technology by LwEEs

I started writing this post sometime ago and left it unfinished for a while, and then this week I was listening to another of my favorite podcasters, Mitch Joel at www.twistimage.com/blog he mentioned this very same thing and that got me into finishing the blog post. Does it happen to you that you are reading an article from another blogger and suddenly you have the urge to reply by leaving your comment, you start writing and notice that your reply comment is not enough to drive the message you have, your idea, your opinion. I felt like that a couple times this week, and to be honest I feel like that almost every week.

Is it plagiarism to expand on someone’s post on your blog? I don’t think so, if you are honest about the source of your material, if you tell your audience what drove you to write the article and explain that is in response to something you found over the web, is definitely no plagiarism. I think is even healthier to write larger responses on your own blog than to leave a large comment someone’s blog about your opinion. If you were a blogger, would you agree with this practice? Would you rather like the whole comment wrote on your post?
