Spending $200 and paying a hefty data plan for the iPhone is something you should consider seriously before you get into it.

Productivity, that’s what is all about, when I initially purchase the iPhone I wonder if I really needed the device. Spending $200 and paying a hefty data plan for the iPhone is something you should consider seriously before you get into it. After some time now, the feeling of being connected all the time is priceless, I can’t leave without my iPhone.

How good is to have a device like the iPhone if you are not going to use it for what it is intended? This is not just a phone, if all you need is to make phone calls, get something else, the interactivity you get with the iPhone is far more advanced than that of any other phone, and that’s just my opinion.

I don’t need to carry my MacBook everywhere, except when I do and my wife complaints about it, the extensibility of the iPhone allows you to be productive anywhere, anytime. Here are some examples of applications I use everyday:

NetNewsWire – NetNewsWire for the iPhone is as useful as the desktop application, this application allow you to keep in sync with all your RSS feeds subscription between platforms. Follow all your favorites websites with this great application, manage feeds, and follow links, all you need in the palm of your hand.

TwitterFon – Not everybody lives on Twitter, but I do, I’ve been tempted to buy Tweetie for iPhone but the economy is being harsh on me this year. For the rest of us, TwitterFon is the best free application to use twitter on your phone. You can post your status, ready your timeline, mentions, and direct messages.

Mother Feed – Basically, this is FriendFeed for the iPhone, the software allows you to read your feed subscriptions, visits your rooms, submit a message, and manage some options on your account. What I like the most about Mother Feed is the cleanliness of the application, you don’t see weird fancy buttons, just clickable items from your feed and some other options.

Evernote – If you have the need to organize notes, snapshots, or even voice notes, and you have an iPhone, then you need Evernote for the iPhone. Like it’s desktop version, Evernote lets you organize, add, and delete your notes from the iPhone and keep them in sync with your desktop software.

Klick – Klick is a Flickr application that allows you upload images to Flickr on the go, you can see images of friends you have subscribed to, public images of people around you. You can search for images and check out your groups if you have any, what I like the most is the easy to navigate features and the elegant user interface.

If you notice all these applications have something in common, they provide you with the ability of consume all your social networking updates on the go. When you are on the go, there are a lot of instances when you have to wait in a line, what a better opportunity than that to update your status or talk about something funny.

Social interaction is very important and with our busy lives we need to take advantage of any moment we have to do some interaction and stay in tuned with what other say or think or talk about. Let me know if you like this recommendations, tell your friends, leave a comment on this blog post, share your thoughts with my community.

In the last MacCast, a podcast about all things Macintosh with Adam Christianson, he asked his listeners to send him a note with their iPhone web usage to do an informal poll. I went to my online AT&T account and screen-print my usage for April for Adam, he just replied to me saying, “Wow you are serious user.”

I started thinking about my data usage and I’m not that bad, I think. My data usage is mostly to check my emails, my NetNewsWire Online account, my bank account, and occasionally to check on news articles, prices for stuff I’m thinking on getting, and playing Bejeweled from PopCat. There is other stuff that I do, but they fall in the rarely used sections so is not worth even to mention them.

Even with all the use I had during the month of April I manage to stay under 300MB, I think that the site that uses most of this bandwidth is NetNewsWire. When I’m checking my RSS entries I notice that most of them have some sort of image attached to it, some of the feeds that I follow are from photo related websites which normally would take a big chunk of bandwidth.

I also email to my Evernote account whatever news article or pictures I’m going to use on blog, and I’m thinking on adding Flickr to the list of websites that I email stuff to. The iPhone makes it very easy to spend time getting things done while you are on a line waiting on the supermarket, at the doctor, or any other place that the sun is not blinding you. And all these is using Edge which is kind of slow, imagine my productivity jump when I get my hand on one the rumored 3G iPhone.

What do you use your iPhone for? I mean other than to make calls. Do you surf the web daily, weekly, not much at all? Share your experience with our community, don’t forget that you can find my at all mayor social media outlets, just look for LwEEs and you’ll find me. You can also email me at lmenendez7@gmail.com, or leave me a voicemail at 407-459-4144, thanks.
