In a move that was expected by some, rumored by a bunch, and desperately awaited by me, Amazon released the Kindle software for the iPhone this morning (March 4, 2009.) The application is free to download, you must have an Amazon account to be able to add books to it. I downloaded the application, logged into my account and head to Amazon.com to purchase a book. When I got to the book I wanted (a free one to test the app), I clicked on purchase and I was surprised to … Continue reading →

In a move that was expected by some, rumored by a bunch, and desperately awaited by me, Amazon released the Kindle software for the iPhone this morning (March 4, 2009.)

The application is free to download, you must have an Amazon account to be able to add books to it. I downloaded the application, logged into my account and head to Amazon.com to purchase a book.

When I got to the book I wanted (a free one to test the app), I clicked on purchase and I was surprised to see that Amazon had my iPhone listed on their list of devises already, pretty fast.

The book downloaded pretty fast, I’m reading it already. I love the availability that Amazon has for the kindle but I’m not sure I will be buying books to read on my iPhone, yet.

The thing I don’t get is what’s Whispersync, unless you launch the application you won’t be receiving any books in the background. I know that the download is fast but, what if you are in a location where you can’t get any signal and forgot to launch the application before you entered this dead spot, you wont have your books with you.

I like the couple options you have on the reader itself, you can adjust the size of the fonts, and you can bookmark pages to go back to them later. If you have a Kindle or another iPhone, you can sync the book to match where you left reading on your other device.

My perception on the ease of reading on the iPhone is pretty good, provided that I haven’t read a whole book yet. I’m certainly very excited about this new application, this is another proof that the iPhone is moving to be the only device you will ever need on the go.

I’m not sure where does this leaves Stanza, a book reader for the iPhone that doesn’t have much popularity, I think. Do you use Stanza? Do you ready anything on the iPhone? Give us you two cents by leaving a comment on this article.

Does it really surprise you? When I first heard that Apple was choosing AT&T to be the preferred provider for the iPhone, I started playing with the idea of many other electronics devices hitting the network. Something like MacBooks with integrated GSM 3G connection that you can activate optionally, and the iPod, yeah why not, it could have some streaming or purchasing options a-la Amazon’s Kindle.

Then the idea crossed my mind again when I heard about the iTunes WiFi Store for the iPhone and the iPod touch, I was stupefied by the idea, thinking about free web access instead of T-Mobiles paid subscription. You soon realize that iTunes WiFi and T-Mobile’s hot spot are going to conflict some how.

Think about it, the implementation of the iTunes WiFi option on Starbucks stores is going to be implemented in stages, which means they are using their own hardware instead of T-Mobiles already available hardware. What are thy up to?

Here it is, AT&T was just getting ready to replace T-Mobile and they couldn’t announce it probably because some sort of contract stipulations with T-Mobile. The smart move for Starbucks was not to ditch T-Mobile for the sake of the customers.

Here is my question to everyone, do you think that iPhone users should get complimentary hot spot from AT&T too? So far, it looks like this offer is available only to DSL subscribers, dreaming is not a crime.

Talking about dreams, has anyone ever thought of the possibility that a company like Apple may be interested in buying someone like Starbucks? Of course I know is kind of weird, plus Apple Records wouldn’t be happy, but what if, just what if they decided to merge. Apple would end up with a some sort of record label and coffee shop all together.

Thanks for reading, stay subscribed. Tell a friend, they might like to read what I have to say.
