Windows 7 RC, Better Than Expected

mslogo-1I downloaded Windows 7 RC right when it was released, I installed it in a virtual machine using VMware Fusion and been testing some of it features. The first thing I notice about this version of Windows is that the installation time was down considerably, it took about 20 to 25 minutes to install.

The second thing I noticed was that the system seems to manage memory better than its previous release. The load in my MacBook seem to be lighter and therefore the machine ran smoother, compared to the previous version which made my computer fans spin for minutes after it started up.

Windows Defender is also another piece of software within Windows 7 that impressed me, the total run time for a quick search was under a minute. The best news from all this is that Windows 7 RC will be valid until June 2010, which is a super long beta period. If this version of Windows keeps improving I think this will be the first license of Windows that I will pay for in about 5 years.

With this in mind lets discuss who is this new version of Windows 7 RC for, basically for everyone. If you have a pc and you know how to work in dual boot or you have a Mac and some virtualization software you must install Windows 7 RC. I do not recommend upgrading a Windows XP or Windows Vista machine with this new version of Windows 7 RC for now.

Where can I get Windows 7 RC?

Follow this link to Microsoft.com and you will be in the right place, scroll down towards the end of the page and select whether you want the 32-bit or 64-bit version and the language pack you want installed with your Windows 7 RC installation.

I’m planning to test various aspects of this release and will be writing about them as I learn new stuff. If you don’t want to mess with Windows 7 RC but would like to know anything or have me test anything within the environment just drop me a comment on this article and will be glad to help you.
